Pediatric Emergency Transport (PETS)
The Pediatric Emergency Transport Service (PETS) team seeks to make a difference in the lives of critically ill or injured children and their families by providing high quality pediatric care in a professional, cost effective, efficient and safe manner. Through inter-hospital ground transport, we keep them close to home.
About Our Service
The goal of our ground transportation team is to respond within 30 minutes to any request for the transport of a pediatric patient with medical and surgical emergencies. We utilize three ambulances specifically set up for pediatric patients to provide critical care and advanced life support. Ambulance amenities include transport ventilators, infusion pumps, invasive and non-invasive monitoring, an expanded drug inventory and TV/DVD distraction. In addition to our ground transportation service, the PETS team also collaborates with the MedFlight crew to offer pediatric nursing expertise for children under the age of 10 who require helicopter transport. We serve our local community and the surrounding communities within a 100 mile radius for inter-facility transport.
Our team is routinely comprised of pediatric critical care experienced registered nurses, pediatric trained paramedics and respiratory therapists. Medical control is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for directing care. Constant changes in pediatric medicine and technology require our PETS (pediatric emergency transport service) team members to maintain competency. We provide continued educational opportunities, case reviews and yearly skill validations. We also require certifications in: PALS, ENPC, TNCC and ACLS for all pediatric critical care transport registered nurses. We take pride in being committed to excellent pediatric care by staying informed about current transport trends, maintaining proficiency in clinical skills, staying active in our community, providing education to surrounding hospitals and promoting the safety of our patients, family and team members.
