Preparing for your stay
Childbirth is a time of excitement, change and family. We at Memorial Childbirth Center want to help guide you each step of the way. See information below for you and your family regarding visiting and preparing for your stay with us. We welcome any questions you may have, so please contact us at our main number 574-647-1000 and ask for the appropriate department or unit: Childbirth Unit, Mother/Baby Unit, Special Care Obstetrics or Newborn ICU.
Childbirth Center Open Houses
We welcome you to attend one of our Childbirth Center Open Houses as early in your pregnancy as possible in order to gain the full benefit of all the information offered. Join us on designated Saturdays between the hours of noon - 3 p.m. for light refreshments, a tour of the Childbirth Center, hospital and community information, hand massages and much more. We look forward to celebrating your pregnancy!
Length of Stay
Most women are in labor for several hours at the hospital. If your baby is born vaginally, plan to stay with us for 48 hours after the delivery. However, if your baby is born at 2 a.m., we will not require you to leave in exactly 48 hours. You are welcome to stay until morning. After breakfast, one of our staff members will help you to your car. If your baby is born by cesarean, you will stay in the hospital for 72 hours. One support person can remain with you overnight for your entire hospital stay. Each Mother/Baby Unit room has a pull-out couch, and we will provide linens.
