First Paraplegic to Ascend "Half Dome" to Speak at Memorial Hospital
Mark Wellman, who made history as the first paraplegic to ascend the 3,000-foot El Capitan and Half Dome at Yosemite National Park, will offer a free presentation on Thursday, May 9 from noon to 1 p.m. at Memorial Hospital Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

Mark Wellman has been a mountaineer since the age of 12, ascending over 50 peaks in the Sierra Nevada and French Alps. A former member of the United States Disabled Ski Team, competing in two Paralympics, Mark is also known for his extreme downhill skiing and whitewater kayaking adventures.
In 1996, Mark inspired over one-hundred thousand spectators as he ascended a 150ft. rope with the flaming torch, lighting the Olympic Cauldron in Atlanta. For more information please visit Mark Wellman's website.
