Driver Rehabilitation

The professional staff of Memorial's Driver Rehabilitation Program serves adolescents and adults with disabilities that impair their ability to drive. Driving problems for those with newly acquired deficits are assessed, and training to compensate for these deficits is provided. Driver education for new drivers with disabilities is also offered. We provide driver rehabilitation services to persons with:

  • visual impairment, including those with bioptic telescope lenses
  • all levels of spinal cord injury
  • muscular dystrophy
  • multiple sclerosis
  • post-polio syndrome
  • brain injury
  • stroke
  • learning disability
  • cerebral palsy
  • spina bifida
  • amputations
  • memory loss, Alzheimer's or dementia

Physician referrals or a referral from a vocational rehabilitation counselor is required. While the program is based out of the Leighton Healthplex in downtown South Bend, many of our patients receive treatment within their community.
